
Unioto Claims First District Baseball Title Since 2018

(22-6) UNIOTO 4, (13-11) WESTFALL 1
The Unioto Shermans are headed to the Sweet 16 in Division 4 Baseball, winning the district championship over SVC foe Westfall 4-1 Thursday at Ohio University’s Bob Wren Stadium.
The Shermans scored in their first three at-bats, with 1 run in the first inning, 1 in the second, and 2 runs in the third inning. Westfall’s lone run came in the top of the seventh inning.

Jaxson Zickafoose got things started in the bottom of the first inning with a lead-off double. He went to third on a Jack Welch fielder’s choice, then scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead. In the second inning, Calloway Ratliff opened with a single, moved to third base on a single by Caden Speakman, then scored on a squeeze bunt by Brayden White for a 2-0 advantage.
The Shermans capped-off their scoring in the third inning on three consecutive singles from Zickafoose, Jack Welch and an RBI single by Keegan Snyder. KB Perkins then drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to left for a 4-0 lead.
Westfall was held to only two hits through six innings, but scored on back-to-back singles by AJ Pluta, Jaden Towler and Pluta scored when Mason Wright reached on an error.
KB Perkins recorded the pitching victory, going the distance, striking out 5 batters and getting 7 Mustangs batters to ground-out.
Unioto improves to (22-6), winning their first district crown since 2018, and advances to the Regional Semi vs the Central District Champ London Raiders on June 3rd at Ohio University. Westfall closes their season as district runner-up and a (13-11) record.

(22-6) DOVER 5, (18-6) MIAMI TRACE 1
Miami Trace saw their season close as Division 3 District Runner-up in their 5-1 set-back to the Crimson Tornadoes of Dover.
Dover’s Liam Mast and Miami Trace’s Xavier Lawhorn were locked-up in a scoreless game through four innings when Dover capitalized on four straight one-out hits to grab a 3-0 lead. The big blows came from Mason Grewell’s RBI singe followed by a 2-run double by Aidan Immell, who later added an RBI double in Dover’s 2-run seventh inning.

Miami Trace scored their only run in the bottom of the seventh when Gaige Stuckey picked up his third hit of the game on a single, then later scored on an RBI single from Cooper Enochs. The Panthers were hurt by 10 runners left on base throughout the contest.
Dover had 5 runs on 11 hits and 1 error, where Miami Trace countered with 1 run on 9 hits and 2 errors.
Dover advances to the Division 3 Regional Semi vs Circleville on June 5th at Chillicothe’s VA Memorial Stadium.
