Article Presented By Kingston National Bank…
The (14-0) Unioto Shermans are SVC Baseball champions for the 25th time in school history, dethroning defending champ (12-2) Zane Trace with a 6-1 conference closing victory Thursday.
Unioto Coach Tony Taylor has several SVC Baseball titles on his resume, but this was his first Gold Baseball title.
After being rained out twice over the last two weeks, it was the Shermans raining runs down on the Pioneers for the title clinching victory, banging out 12 hits. Unioto scored 2 in the first inning, 1 in the second, then added 3 runs in the fourth frame to provide all the offense they needed. The Tanks also stranded 10 runners on base as ZT was able to work their way out of several other Unioto scoring opportunities.
The Pioneers scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Unioto’s KB Perkins did double duty damage against Zane Trace. On the pitching mound he fanned 8 Pioneers batters, scattering 8 hits for the win. On offense, he drove in 4 of the Shermans’ runs with an RBI double in the first inning and a bases clearing double in the fourth inning to blow the contest open.
Caden Speakman also provided offense with a 3 for 4 day at the plate, Caden Cutright was 2 for 4- scoring a run, Keegan Snyder walked 3 times and scored 2 runs. Jaxson Zickafoose singled and scored twice, and Jack Welch singled twice, scoring 1 run twice and driving in 1 run.
Perkins, Snyder, and Cutright were named Litter Media Radio’s “McDonald’s Players of the Game.”

While Zane Trace collected 8 hits in the game, Gavyn Allen was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits, going 2 for 3 with both being singles. Josh Young drove in the their only run with a 6th inning single to score Coen Larson, who reached on a single.
Pitcher KB Perkins remained perfect on the season, going to (8-0), while Zane Trace’s Pierce Manson suffered his first loss on the mound this season and dropped to (7-1).
Unioto opens tournament play May 22nd in Division 4, while the D-5 Pioneers have a first round bye and won’t play until May 28th.
