Unioto Defends SVC Football Title With Impressive 43-0 Win Over Paint Valley
Article Presented By Kingston National Bank…
The Unioto Shermans dominated both sides of the ball Friday in their 43-0 rout of the Paint Valley Bearcats, clinching no worse than a share of the 2024 SVC Football crown. The Shermans can win the title outright with a Week 10 win over Southeastern. Both Unioto and Paint Valley have already secured OHSAA Playoff berths in Divisions 4 and 6, respectively.
Unioto’s defense forced six Bearcats turnovers while holding PV to 160 total yards, while the Tanks offense rolled up 302 total yards.
Shermans’ quarterback Isaac Coy connected on 8/15 passing for 138 yards and one touchdown, while Cody Braden rushed for 63 yards on 18 carries, scored 3 touchdowns and ran for a 2-point PAT. Yusef Wilson rushed for 69 yards on 12 carries and scored a TD.
Two Unioto defenders gained Litter Media Radio’s “McDonald’s Players of the Game” honors as Caden Cutright grabbed two interceptions and Javon Smith snared one interception and recovered a fumble.
Paint Valley was playing short-handed, as their leading rusher and tackler Braylon Robertson was on crutches from an ankle injury he suffered the week before. The Bearcats also lost quarterback Preston Fauber, who was shaken up late in the first half of the Unioto game.
Unioto built a 36-0 lead at halftime, which activated the “continuous clock” for the second half. The Shermans scored on drives of 64, 8, 87, 67, 20, and 92 yards.
Unioto improves to (6-0/8-1) and will play for the SVC Gold Football next week vs Southeastern, while the (4-2/7-2) Bearcats close at (5-1/5-4 Zane Trace next week.
