The Unioto Shermans showed tremendous balance on both sides of the ball in a 45-7 rout at Paint Valley. The Tanks lived up to their name with 345 total yards and played most of the second half with the continuous clock. Unioto clinched no worse than a share of the SVC championship, their first grid crown since they shared with Adena in 1998.
Unioto’s Newton Hoops threw 19/25 for 245 yards and four touchdowns, while running for another. Two TD strikes went to his brother Blake Hoops on plays of 26 and 40 yards, with Blake pulling in 85 yards receiving for the game. The Shermans Ethan Summar added 105 rushing yards and scored a TD. On defense, Unioto was led by Will Fleck with 9 tackles and 3.5 tackles for loss. Alex Mills added 9 tackles. Marcel James and Blake Hoops each had 8 tackles.
Paint Valley was limited to 194 total yards, with 163 of those coming from Braylon Robertson’s 163 rushing yards. Two of those were on runs of 72 yards for a TD and another for 60 yard gain to the Unioto 12 yard line.

The Bearcats drew first blood in the game, picking off a Unioto pass, then scoring two plays later on the Robertson 72 yard run at 8:40 of the first quarter for a 7-0 lead. That was PV’s only score of the game.
Unioto evened the score 7-7 at 6:35 of the first period, when Newt Hoops connected with Connor Dollison from 4 yards, capping a 65 yard drive in 5 plays. They increased that lead to 14-7 after recovering a Paint Valley fumbled punt reception at the one yard line. Newt Hoops scored on the next play at 1:24 of the first quarter followed by a Lucas Hanes PAT.
The Tanks would add two more scores before halftime. Those scores came at 8:09 of the second period on a Newt Hoops 26 yard TD strike to Blake Hoops. The next score was at 5:04 of the second period when the Hoops brothers combo struck again on a 40 yard TD pass for the 28-7 lead, which held up into halftime.
Lucas Hanes picked up a 35 yard field goal at 6:22 of the third quarter for a 31-7 lead. Following a blocked punt, Unioto scored on the next play at 4:22 of the third period for a 38-7 advantage, which activated the continuous game clock.
Set up by another Paint Valley fumble, Unioto scored one last time on a 35 yard run from Ethan Summar with 2:09 remaining for the 45-7 final score.
Unioto improves to (6-0/8-1) and can claim the undisputed SVC title with a win against Southeastern in Week 10. Paint Valley drops to (5-1/7-2) and travels to (5-1/6-3) Zane Trace in Week 10.
