Unioto Grabs SVC Lead With Impressive Win Over Zane Trace

A Friday packed house at Zane Trace High School came to see the Unioto and ZT in a battle of the SVC’s top two boys basketball. When the game ended, everyone walked away from the gym having seen the Unioto Shermans put on an impressive offensive and defensive performance in their 64-40 victory.
The (11-1/16-3) Shermans take a one game advantage over the (10-2/14-3) Pioneers with only two conference contests remaining.
The Pioneers’ only lead in the game was 3-2, which was followed by a 12-0 Unioto run and had a 16-5 lead after one quarter. That lead expanded to 31-16 at halftime, 46-30 after three, then the 64-40 final. The Shermans’ biggest lead of the game was 25 points.
The Tanks shot better than 50% from the field in each quarter of the game and finished at 26/47 for 55%- including 6/16 from the three-point arc. Unioto was also 6/10 from the charity stripe, grabbed 25 rebounds and committed 10 turnovers.
Zane Trace was held to 22% shooting in the first period, and never was able to recover. The Pioneers were 15/50- including 5/20 from the arc for a game total of 30% from the field. They added 5/8 from the foul line, hauled-in 19 rebounds and committed 10 turnovers.
Unioto scoring was led by Caden Cutright’s 19 points, Blake Fitch had 13, Blake Hoops 10, KB Perkins 9, Jaxon Zickafoose 7, Isaac Coy 5, and Yusef Wilson added 1 point. Both Caden Cutright and Jaxon Zickafoose were both awarded the Litter Media Radio “McDonald’s Players of the Game” for their outstanding defensive efforts in shutting down the Pioneers key players.
Zane Trace was led by Gunnar McCullough with 12 points, Judah Hanks and Landon Robinson each had 6 points, Ezra Rippeth had 5 points, Grady Stewart and Noah Houston each scored 4 points, and Landen Jarrell added 3 points.
