V.A. Memorial Stadium Hosts Region 5 Senior American Legion Baseball Tournament

The Region 5 American Legion Senior Baseball Tournament gets underway Monday, July 17th at VA Memorial Stadium. Chillicothe Post 757, Waverly Post 142, Hillsboro Post 129 and Harrison-Yeager Post out of Cincinnati are the four teams playing for a trip to the State Tournament in Lancaster.

Chillicothe plays Waverly in the opener Monday, followed by Hillsboro-Yeager at 1:30pm. The Winner’s Bracket Final is at 4pm Monday. The Loser’s Bracket will be played Tuesday, with the Championship Round on Wednesday, July 19th.

In Game #1 Monday, Chillicothe Post 757 defeated Waverly Post 142 by a 10-3 score. Grubbs tossed a 3-hitter with 5Ks. Chillicothe banged-out 14 hits, led by Leach & Crace with 3 hits and 2 hits from Grubbs. Schmidt, Leach & Crace with triples and Glandon with a double.

In Round #2 on Monday, a pitcher’s duel saw Yeager-Benson Post 199 knocked-off Chillicothe Post 757, by a 2-1 score. Will Bratt threw a great game, giving up only 3 hits and 2 earned runs for 757. 199’s Sam Huston also gives up just 3 hits. Patterson & Penwell both hit doubles for Post 757.

757 drops to the Loser’s Bracket and awaits the winner of Waverly/Hillsboro, with the Tuesday final winner advancing to Wednesday’s finals vs Yeager-Benson for a trip to the State Legion Tournament in Lancaster next week.

Elsewhere at Logan, Lancaster Post 11 fell to Pickerington 2-1 on Monday, forcing a deciding championship game Tuesday for a trip to the state tournament.
