Chillicothe-Ross League of Women Voters Cancel Virtual Candidates Night
Presented By McDonald’s, I’m Lovin’ It!
The League of Women Voters of Chillicothe-Ross has cancelled their scheduled Candidates’ Night event scheduled for Tuesday, September 28th, due to insufficient candidate participation.
The following is a press release from the League’s website:
We understand that this is a disappointment. However, as a non-partisan, voter education organization with specific, nationally mandated rules governing our public forums, we unfortunately could not proceed with the event as none of the contested races would have been represented by candidates from both parties.
In regards to rumors about a partisan boycott, we want to make clear that we have absolutely no evidence this was the case. Furthermore, we would greatly like such speculation to cease, as it is wholly unproductive to civil discourse and voter engagement.
While we are very disappointed to not be hosting our annual forum, we encourage voters to instead attend the upcoming Meet the Candidates Night hosted by the local NAACP on Tuesday, October 26th at 7pm.
Additionally, our local League is utilizing the national Vote411.org online voter guide for this year’s city races. So all of the candidates who were invited to attend our live event, will also be invited to provide information and answer questions for voters to then read anytime at vote411.org . Invitations to participate in Vote411 will be sent to candidates soon, and it is our sincere hope that all candidates will take the opportunity to speak directly to voters using this convenient online format.
Please stay tuned to the League for more information about both the NAACP Forum and our Vote411 online voter guide.
