WCH Scores Late To Beat Rival Miami Trace in “Black & Blue Game”

For the fourth year in a row, the final outcome of the Fayette County Football rivalry came down to the closing minutes to determine a winner. This time, it was home team Washington CH scoring with :08 remaining for the 33-28 win over Miami Trace, in front of a capacity crowd at Gardner Field.

Landen Cope put Miami Trace on the scoreboard in their opening drive, scoring from 14 yards at 9:01 of the first quarter. The PAT kick gave Miami Trace the 7-0 at WCH.

The Blue Lions responded on a Troy Thompson to Calum Brown 27 yard TD pass at 2:41 of the first quarter. The PAT kick tied the game at 7-7.

WCH took their first lead of the game when Thompson connected on a 7 yard TD pass to Tanner Lemaster at 5:14 of the second quarter, followed by the PAT kick. WCH 14, Miami Trace 7.

Before the half ended, Asher LeBeau of Miami Trace scored on a 1 yard run with :39 left. The PAT tied WCH and MT 14-14 in the Battle of Fayette County going into halftime.

Miami Trace got the scoring started in the third quarter when Landen Cope ran 25 yards for a TD at 6:57 of the third quarter. The PAT gave the Panthers a 21-14 lead.

The Blue Lions responded quickly when Michael Bearden’s screen pass from Thompson led him to run 78 yards for a WCH TD at 6:32 of third quarter. PAT ties game 21-21.

Jacob Lindsey of WCH recovered a MT fumble at midfield with 7:26 remaining, that would set up the Blue Lions go-ahead scoring drive. Troy Thompson hit Isaiah Haithcock for a 38 yard TD pass at 7:12 remaining. The 2-point conversion failed, giving WCH a 27-21 lead.

Miami Trace came right back, driving down the field on a couple of big plays that led to a Trey Robinette 23 yard TD pass to Garrett Guess with 2:03 to go. Zachary Warnock’s PAT put Miami Trace up 28-27.

WCH came right back down the field and had the ball on the three yard line, then took a sack. On third down, Troy Thompson threw a 10 TD pass to AJ Dallmayer at :08 left. The PAT 2-point try failed, giving Washington CH the 33-28 win, after stopping Miami Trace’s last gasp pass that was batted down to end the game.

Washington CH has 416 total yards compared to 331 for Miami Trace. 269 yards for the Panthers were on the ground and only 62 passing. WCH rushed for 172 yards.

Washington CH quarterback Troy Thompson threw 18/30 for 244 yards and 4 touchdowns, and was named our McDonald’s “Player of the Game”. Michael Bearden 6 carries/94 yards/ 1 TD Calum Brown 7 catches/90 yards/ 1 TD. Tanner Lemaster 4 catches/48 yards/ 1 TD.

Asher LeBeau of Miami Trace ran for 126 yards on 19 carries. Landen Cope 14/96 yards and 2 TD’s. Isaiah Haithcock 1 TD and AJ Dallmayer 1 TD.

Penalties: WCH 12/115 yards- MT 12/110 yards.

The Blue Lions improve to (8-2) on the season and await Sunday’s playoff match-up announcement. Miami Trace is also playoff bound.
