Westfall Bumps Paint Valley From Top of SVC

The Westfall Mustangs played a suffocating second half defense in a 57-41 win over former SVC co-leader Paint Valley Friday, leaving Zane Trace in sole possession of the conference lead with one to play before the holiday break, as the Pioneers were also 68-48 winners at Piketon.
The Bearcats held leads of 15-14 after the first quarter and 25-24 at halftime. But the Mustangs outscored Paint Valley 15-6 in the third quarter and 18-10 in the final period for the victory.
Casey Cline was one of two Westfall players in double figures with 20 points, while Brody Clark added 17. Cline was our McDonald’s Player of the Game. Blaec Bugher and Seth Gifford each added 9 points for the Mustangs. Henry Barnes rounded out the offense with 2 points.
Paint Valley was led by Dax Estep’s double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Paint Valley falls to (3-1/5-2), having lost twice this week to unbeaten Leesburg Fairfield on Tuesday to start the week. Westfall improves to (3-1/4-3).
Zane Trace’s 68-48 win over Piketon moves their record to (4-0/4-1). Elsewhere in the SVC, Unioto beat Adena 58-50 and Southeastern gained their first SVC win with a 58-54 decision over Huntington.
