Wheelersburg Softball Repeats State Title With Shutout Win Over Indian Lake
Article Presented By Kingston National Bank…
Dynasty! That’s the only word to describe the (32-0) Wheelersburg Lady Pirates softball program as they repeat as Division 3 state champions with a 6-0 win over (26-4) Indian Lake. The title is the third in school history since 2016, and their second straight. Wheelersburg has lost only once in the last two years.
The Lady Pirates did most of their offensive damage in the top of the third inning where they scored four runs. That score remained until the top of the seventh inning when Catie Boggs blasted a two-run homer to conclude the scoring in their 6-0 title game win.
(19-0) Andi Jo Howard was the winning pitcher for Burg, yielding only two hits for the game, striking out 2 batters. Howard was also on the mound last season when they won the title. She will be back for her senior season next year.
Wheelersburg’s hitting stars for the game was senior Macee Eaton at 2/3 and Catie Boggs at 2/4. Boggs drove in four of their six runs- including her two run blast in the seventh inning.
The Lady Pirates have been led to three state titles by legendary coach Teresa Ruby, winning in 2016, 2022 and now 2023.
