The boys basketball coaching landscape in the area has made a major shift with new boys varsity basketball coaches named at Zane Trace and Circleville High Schools and 17 year head coach Matt Hoops stepping down at Unioto.
Zane Trace has hired Tyler Cassidy as their new boys varsity basketball coach, replacing retired Hall of Fame Coach Gary Kellough. Cassidy is the former head coach at Circleville, along with having been an assistant coach at both Teays Valley and Logan Elm.
Evan Callihan is the new boys basketball coach at Circleville HS. Callahan is no stranger to the Circleville program, having previously served as an assistant coach there before going to Waverly for one year, then returning to Circleville. Callihan fills the vacancy at Circleville for Cody Carpenter, who stepped down following the 2023-24 season.
At Unioto, Matt Hoops has confirmed in a text to Litter Media’s Mike Smith that he is stepping down as basketball coach after 17 seasons. Hoops has a basketball coaching record of (260-134) in his time with the Shermans, including 8 SVC championships, four Gold Balls, and three district titles. He also was named SVC Coach of the Year 8 times in that stretch. Matt Hoops will stay on as head football coach for the Shermans, where they are the defending SVC Champs.
