FCPH to offer Safe Sitter classes in May and June

Article Presented By Kingston National Bank…

WASHINGTON CH – Fayette County Public Health will offer Safe Sitter® babysitting classes for young teens, grades 6-8, at the health department. This is a one-day class, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and there are two classes to choose from. The registration deadline for the May 28 class is May 18, and the registration deadline for the June 29 class is June 19.

More than 750,000 young teens have graduated from the program,  which teaches how, why, and where injuries happen so they can be prevented.

The class provides hands-on practice in lifesaving techniques to young teens who are watching younger siblings or babysitting, so they are equipped with the skills and confidence to act in an emergency. They learn basic first aid and infant and child choking rescue. Students also learn CPR and practice skills on medical manikins.  Students receive instruction on how a child’s age affects how to care for them, how to prevent problem behavior, and how to run their own babysitting business.

Students who complete the Safe Sitter® class receive a Student Handbook to use as a reference as well as a completion card demonstrating that they know how to use their skills in situations they encounter.

The cost of the class is $50. Call 740-335-5910 or visit Fayette County Public Health at 317 S. Fayette Street to register your child.
