Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Celebrates 200 years
Presented by Atomic Speedway
2021 marks the bicentennial year for Chillicothe’s Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church.
Founded in 1821, the congregation became known as the African Methodist Episcopal Church (A.M.E.). It’s the first A.M.E. Church in Ohio and is the first to be organized west of the Allegheny Mountains.
The existing church on West Main Street was constructed in 1910 and is still in use today.
The congregation has planned several events to celebrate the Church’s 200 years of service to the community, beginning Saturday, July 24th. A free Community Musical Program will be held at 4pm Saturday at First Presbyterian Church at 13 Mead Drive in Chillicothe.
August 28th, from 4:00pm-6:30pm, the Urban Jazz Coalition will perform in the Chillicothe High School Auditorium on Yoctangee Boulevard. Tickets are $15 and are on sale Fridays from 10:00am to 12:00pm at the back entrance of Quinn Chapel. You can also leave a message at the church number 740-775-3529 or contact Rachel Foster 740-775-2166 or 740-649-9429.
