Rally cars rumble through Scioto Trails, Shawnee and Zaleski State Forests this week for the tenth running of the Southern Ohio Forest Rally. Testing began Wednesday and events are scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, rain or shine.
Race Director Jeremiah Johnson told Litter Media in an interview last week, community support for the event for the last decade has been remarkable and SOFR is proud to have reached the 10th year landmark.
“It’s a little bit emotional for me” said Johnson “Comin’ on ten years and we’ve just been really blessed with the support that we’ve gotten locally.” Something else humbling Johnson and his team is World Rally Championship representatives are in for the weekend of competition. “The WRC folks are flying in Thursday to shadow to see we do here in the United States. It’s been since 1987 when they had an event in the U.S.”
An estimated four to five thousand fans will gather in the Chillicothe High School parking lot at 5pm Thursday evening to witness the Chillicothe Park Expose, meet the drivers and get to look at the cars up close. That’ll be followed up by the Yoctangee Park Stage of the Rally.
Friday’s action takes place in Shawnee State Forest and staging will take place at Portsmouth West High School and Saturday into Zaleski State Forest after the Park Expose in downtown McArthur.
