Adena Repeats As SVC Volleyball Champs

Presented By Hometown-Motors, Inc.

The 2021 Adena Warriors Volleyball team repeated the accomplishment of their 2020 counterparts as undisputed SVC Champs. In fact, all but one player on this year’s squad was there last year- minus graduating one player.

The Warriors took a 3-0 decision at Huntington (26-24, 25-14, 25-20), wrapping up the outright title and improving to (12-1/19-2).

Adena’s JV also wrapped up an SVC title (2-0) over Huntington.

Lori Koker Headed To State Coaches Association Hall Of Fame

Presented By McDonald’s, I’m Lovin’ It!

*UPDATE from March 27th, 2021 Litter Media Story*

The Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association has voted Southeastern High School Coach Lori Koker into their 2021 Hall of Fame Class.

Entering the 2021 season, Koker had a career record of (377-160) in coaching stints at Westfall (1998-2010), Zane Trace (2011-2016) and now at Southeastern (2020).

At Westfall, she led the Mustangs to an SVC tri-championship in 1999 and a outright title in 2004. To go with that, she is the only SVC coach to get teams to three consecutive State Final Four appearances. Those occurred with Westfall in 2002, 2003 and 2004.

She later led Zane Trace to an SVC title and Sweet 16 appearance in 2012.

“I thank my family for all the sacrifices they’ve made for supporting me and none of this would be possible if I didn’t have my husband [Allen] by my side, who has constantly helped me on and off the court,” Koker said. “Those are memories I cherish.”

Koker volleyball teams have accumulated 18 sectional championships, 12 district crowns and three regional banners — 2003, 2004 and 2005 at Westfall.

Koker has been named the SVC Coach of the Year three times, the District 14 Coach of the Year on five occasions and was inducted into Westfall’s Hall of Fame in 2017.

Koker has previously received the OHSVCA Coaches Achievement Award three times and has been named SVC Coach of the Year in 1999 and 2004 at Westfall, then 2012 at Zane Trace. Koker also was voted District Coach of the Year in five different seasons.

She also has served as a state association trustee, representing District 14 of the High School Volleyball Coaches Association.

The sturdy buildings have seen varied uses over the years, and you will hear about their history, architectural and engineering details, and proud renovations.

(Dard Hunter Studios)

190 years ago this month, the Ohio & Erie Canal officially opened in Chillicothe after water finally filled “The Great Ditch.” The canal dominated the town for the next generation and operated for 50 years, bringing wealth and culture, and shaping its development – especially after the Great Fire of 1852.

The tour is limited to about 25 participants and reservations are encouraged. It will be $20 for adults, $10 for students, and $30 for families (three or more family members including children). Pay “at the door” with cash or check.

The approximately hour-and-a-half tour starts 2pm Sunday, October 17th, 2021 at Dard Hunter Studios at 115 West Water Street. Parking is welcome at 152 W. Water Street, opposite Park Street. Then we’ll walk to the triple canal warehouses of the Old Town Fabric Shop at 52-54-56 West Water Street.

Since most of the tour is indoors, it will happen regardless of weather. It will be indoors with stairs, ramps and an elevator, and on level sidewalks and street crossings.
