Thursday was a big night for area conference softball championships being decided, while an upset in the SVC creates a Friday night showdown between league leaders.
In the SVC, state ranked and conference unbeaten Unioto suffered their first SVC loss, falling 5-3 at Zane Trace. That, coupled with a 14-1 Adena win over Piketon, puts the Lady Shermans and Lady Warriors in a first place tie going into their Friday rematch in Frankfort. Hillsboro won their won their third straight FAC softball championship with a convincing 10-0 win over runner-up Jackson. The Lady Indians finish the league season with a perfect (10-0) mark.
The undisputed MSL Buckeye softball crown goes to D-1 state ranked Teays Valley with a 7-1 victory over Circleville. The Lady Vikings remain unbeaten in MSL play with a couple of games to play.
In the SOC 1, D-4 state ranked Portsmouth Notre Dame claimed their 4th straight league title with a 5-0 victory over Symmes Valley. Gwen Sparks fired a no-hitter and fanned 13 SV batters.
D-2 top ranked Athens remained unbeaten for the season, while claiming at least a share of their first TVC softball title since 2012 with a 9-1 win over Vinton County.
