Adena Volleyball Claims SVC Title 3-Peat With Sweep of Huntington

The Adena Warriors can do no worse than win a share of their third straight SVC Volleyball title and 31st in school history following a (25-15, 25-18, 25-21) sweep of Huntington at Frankfort Tuesday night. The Warriors will attempt to win the crown outright at Paint Valley Thursday to close the regular season.

Zane Trace picked up a 3-0 win at Westfall, (25-18, 25-21, 25-13) to improve to (11-2) in the SVC. The Pioneers need a win vs Unioto Thursday and an Adena loss at PV to share the title.

In the opening Set, Warriors’ senior Carly Bowdle jump-started their offense with a 6-0 serving run, entering the match after a side-out at 4-3, then helped propel them to a 10-3 lead before Huntington called a timeout. The Huntsmen got as close as five points at 18-13, only to see Adena close on a 7-2 run for a 25-15 victory. Bowdle had 10 of her 20 match serving points in the first set.

In Set #2, the score stayed close through 13-13, when Adena went on a 6-0 run for a 19-13 lead. The Huntsmen got to within 19-15, then the Warriors took off again on a 4-0 run for a 23-15 lead and hung-on for a 25-18 win and a (2-0) match lead.

In the third and final Set, the scores again stayed close, with Huntington taking leads of 17-16 and 18-17, before Adena got the lead back at 19-18. The Huntsmen stayed close through 21-20, with Adena closing on a 4-1 run for the 25-21 victory and the match-sweep.

Adena’s win brings their SVC record to (12-1) and (19-2) overall, claiming their third straight SVC title. They can win it outright with a win at Paint Valley or a Zane Trace loss to Unioto on Thursday. Huntington drops to (5-8/9-11).

Adena’s stats show Hannah Burns with 12 kills, 2 assisted blocks and 13 digs. Eva Kruger pounded 11 kills with 16 digs, Sydney Foglesong added 10 kills while Brinlee Preston had 9 kills and 4 assisted blocks. Catie Burns had 3 kills and 5 setting assists. Carly Bowdle had 4 serving aces and serving 20 points. Brooke Bossert had 12 digs and Grace Townsend dished-out 36 setting assists and 20 digs.

Huntington’s stat leaders on Tuesday were Haleigh Stangle with 8 kills, Emma Hinshaw with 7, and Kaci Carroll with 5. Allie Baker led the defense with 23 digs, while Carroll added 13. Lilly Steele had 12 setting assists.
