Assistance House Soup Fundraiser Slated For March 13th

The Assistance House of Ross County Board of  Directors is hosting a “souper” fundraiser  to help working Ross County residents faced with emergency or critical needs and expenses that could risk their ability to remain employed and self-sufficient.  

The Empty Bowls Project will be held Sunday, March 13, 12 noon to 3pm, at the Family Life Center at  St. Mary Catholic  Church, 61 South Paint Street. 

The luncheon event offers a meal of soup, salad, breadstick and beverage. Each adult guest will also receive a handcrafted bowl from a local artisan. Ticket prices are $20 for adults and $10 per child, ages 12 and younger for a meal only (no bowl).

The Assistance House of Ross County is committed to its Mission to provide temporary assistance to working Ross County residents who face financial challenges by providing monetary help and direction to enable them to maintain self-sufficiency.  

The Assistance House of Ross County…
*Works with various social services agencies, churches, and civic organizations to help our working neighbors in need.

*Interviews each client to determine eligibility for assistance and discusses current needs, household budget, and financial goals.

*If funds are available, assists with full or partial payment of overdue rent for clients who have received an eviction notice.

*May assist with full or partial payment of an overdue utility bill (electricity, gas, water) for clients who have received a shut-off notice.

*May help newly employed persons with vouchers for purchase of work clothes,shoes or boots, gas for travel to work until they receive the first paycheck. Proof of employment is required.

*Works with the Lions Club to provide free eye exams and eyeglasses.

*Provides assistance for certain prescriptions and medical equipment. 

*Has specific programs for assistance with children’s back-to-school and adults’ back-to-work clothing and shoes.  

*Provides vouchers for the Good Samaritan Food Pantry and referrals to other agencies and resources.

In 1914, Colonel Richard Enderlin founded the Ross County Welfare Association. Throughout the following years and name changes, the organization became known as The Assistance House. More than 100 years ago, our community leaders saw the need to help their neighbors struggling to be self-sufficient. Today, this mission continues to drive the work of The Assistance House.
