Dr. Brian Cohen made news Sunday in a Facebook announcement with WTVN Radio host Mindy Drayer.

“Tomorrow (Monday), Cohen Orthopedic is closing on 47 acres of land in Ross County on Route 23” Cohen said. “And what’s going to be there is a state of the art medical facility that focuses on patient safety, employee safety and patient experience and employee experience as well as some other things.”

Among those other things Cohen mentioned will be a sports complex. “And the cornerstone of that facility will be a new stadium for the Chillicothe Paints.”

Cohen adds there will be a community center, multi-sports courts, including indoor basketball and soccer courts and four multi-use sports fields. “There’ll be turf fields lined not only for baseball and softball, but also football, lacrosse, soccer.”

There’ll also be a hotel and restaurants.

“The economic impact for Ross County is going to be immeasurable. We’re talking hundreds of millions of dollars.”

How soon could the facility be ready? “The goal is to open the medical facility, the end of next year” said Cohen.

As for the stadium, Chillicothe Paints President, Bryan Wickline told Litter Media they’re excited about a new home, but their home since 1993, VA Memorial Stadium, will continue to be part of the club’s plans.

“The Paints are very excited and hopeful for the opportunity to have a new stadium, not only for the Paints, but for our community and our region” said Wickline. “We are still in the early stages of how to structure and finance the project. By no means is the sports piece of the overall project a done deal, but we’re working hard right now with the appropriate people to see how we can make it happen.”

“But make no mistake, we will not abandon the VA Stadium. It will become a large, important piece of the multiple sports fields project that will become a major player in the travel tournament d circuit.”

Cohen said in the Facebook announcement, including the construction phase, 500 jobs will likely be added to the Ross County community. He’s also happy to be able to pay back to the community where he has practiced medicine for many years. The addition of the sports complex will be an attraction for the region. “The lives of our young people who are active can stay close to home and not have to sit in a car for two hours to go to these sports complexes. People will have to sit in their cars and come to our facility.”

“The opportunity and vision is overwhelmingly exciting. This state-of-the-art sports complex will be a wildly popular destination for sporting events of all ages,” Wickline said. “This will leave an amazing legacy for generations.”

Litter Media will have more on this developing story, including an interview with Dr. Cohen.
