Eight Area Communities To Benefit From Ohio Nature Works Grants

(Columbus) – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has awarded $1.7 million in grants to support dozens of new outdoor recreation projects in local communities across the state.

The grants, awarded as part of the NatureWorks program, will support 68 outdoor recreation projects in 62 counties. Projects include the development of playgrounds, natural playscapes, trails, restrooms, dog parks, baseball fields, basketball courts, tennis and pickleball courts, splash pads, and picnic shelters. 

Area communities receiving funds include:
*Chillicothe City Recreation for roofing, fencing and sidewalk renovation totaling $16,743.

*Buzzard Roost Nature Preserve for a 10×12 foot observation deck totaling $18,750.

*Pickaway County’s Barthelmas Park for $41,425 to construct pickleball courts.

*Pike Bristol Park for fencing, driveway, parking lot, water bottle filling station and landscaping- totaling $72,566.

*Jackson County Fairgrounds for chip & seal roads at $10,892.

*Jeffersonville Pool Park external upgrades- including pool barn windows and fencing at $9,697.

*Scioto County’s Glendale Community Center for play & exercise equipment for adults and older children- costing $14,249.

*Kachelmacher Park in Logan for electric work on the stage at a cost of $20,948.

NatureWorks Grant Map

NatureWorks grants provide up to 75% reimbursement assistance to local government subdivisions for the acquisition, development, and rehabilitation of recreational areas. Projects are funded through the Ohio Parks and Natural Resources Bond Issue, which was approved by Ohioans in November 1993. Additional legislation authorized the creation of the NatureWorks Grant Program.
