The hundreds of people that walk and live on the streets of Chillicothe/Ross County each day are not going unnoticed by First Capital Cornerstone of Change, a non-profit organization that provides resources for food, clothing, employment training opportunities and more.
The year-and-a-half old organization is the brain child of Tracey Kemper and Christine Arredondo, who lost loved ones from substance abuse. The actual genesis of First Capital Cornerstone of Change came about during the COVID-19 pandemic, when The Ross County Recovery & Outreach Center, (located behind Crispie Creme Donuts), was serving over 100 meals per day for those in need, without much funding. That’s when Dr. Stacey Saunders-Adams, an assistant professor of social work at Ohio University-Chillicothe, got on board helping to prepare food for many of those people in need.
As a result of discussions between the three women, First Capital Cornerstone of Change was born.
Since then, the group has grown into an organization that not only tries to help with daily needs of food and clothing, but also substance abuse treatment and recovery.
Outreach days are Monday through Friday with hot meals offered six days each week.
Like any such group, volunteers and donations are needed.
