Friends Of Hopewell Offering Mounds Lecture

(Chillicothe) – The Friends of Hopewell Culture National Historical Park are urging everyone to mark your calendars for March 9th at 7pm as Gary Argabright will be presenting at Ohio University Chillicothe the “Rediscovering Chillicothe’s Forgotten Mounds”- focusing specifically on a group of prehistoric mounds which once dotted the landscape between Paint Street and the Adena Mansion and have since been lost to farming and development.

This program will be three-fold with: 

1) Overview of the extent of Ross County’s prehistoric man-made landscape at the time of the Hopewell peoples 

2) Discussion of what happened to the mounds that were once situated in the northwest quadrant of Chillicothe and 

3) Progress report of recent attempts to re-establish their now-lost locations.

This lecture will be followed by a guided Trolley Tour to the sites Gary talks about provided by the Chillicothe Transit System on March 11 and 18 at 10am.  Departs from the Transit Depot on East Seventh Street.
