(Greenfield) – The Ohio Rail Development Commission (ORDC) approved a grant in the amount of $50,000 to assist Adient US, LLC with needed on-site rehabilitation of rail infrastructure at its facility in Greenfield, Ohio.  Adient will commit to retaining the 238 existing jobs at the facility as a result.

Adient was spun off from Johnson Controls International in 2016, encompassing Johnson Controls’ automotive seat manufacturing facilities. Currently, Adient is the world’s largest automotive seat manufacturer, accounting for approximately one third of the world’s revenue in the segment and manufacturing seating for 25 million vehicles yearly.  Adient currently has 250 facilities in 34 countries, employing over 80,000.

Adient’s seating manufacturing facility in Greenfield experienced significant supply chain interruptions during the weather event in Texas in February 2021.  Texas is where the majority of the company’s feedstock is originated.  As a result, Adient implemented plans to install a tank farm on-site at its Greenfield location to ensure that Adient’s facilities nationwide do not experience a significant supply chain disruption in the future as the Greenfield tank farm would be able to feed any North American Adient facility.  As this would require reliable and additional rail service due to the enhanced number of inbound materials, the on-site rail was identified as a major priority to rehabilitate.

“It is always our goal to aid businesses who are making investments in Ohio.  We are very happy that Adient chose its Ohio location to establish its company’s logistics hub for materials.  This project is proof that the rail network in Ohio has a role in fixing the nation’s supply chain issues for the long term. These efforts will support Adient in its continued growth into the future; a win for all involved,” said Matthew Dietrich, Executive Director of the Ohio Rail Development Commission.
