Highland County Community Action Organization has announced a digital literacy training program specially designed for seniors 65 and older who want to feel more comfortable using technology to connect with loved ones and access services and information that is available online. These free interactive sessions are designed to empower older adults with the skills and confidence to safely navigate smartphones, computers, social media, and the internet.

Training topics include:

  • Basics of computer navigation and usage
    • Internet browsing and search skills
    • Introduction to smartphones and tablets
    • Email communication
    • Common social media applications
    • Online safety and privacy tips
    • Q&A sessions to address specific concerns

It is more important than ever for our senior citizens to have the skills to access information and resources online, as most businesses, organizations, and resources use the internet to conduct business.

Social media, video calls, email, and other tools can help seniors in Highland County stay connected to family and friends around the world, but seniors can feel frustrated or nervous about using these tools to make those connections.  The goal of this new digital literacy program is to provide seniors with the tools and knowledge to safely navigate the online world.

This training will include information on using computers and smartphones, creating email accounts, using social media applications, taking and sending pictures, using media applications for entertainment, and other areas of technology use.

Training will be offered at the following times and locations.

  • March 4th, 11AM-12PM – Hillsboro Senior Center
  • March 7th, 5PM-6PM – Greenfield Library
  • March 18th, 10:30AM-11:30AM – Greenfield Senior Nutrition Center
  • March 30th, 1PM-2PM – Hillsboro Library
  • April 6th, 1PM-2PM – Leesburg Library
  • April 15th, 5PM to 6PM – Lynchburg Library
  • May 4th, 1PM to 2PM – Hillsboro Library

Participants are encouraged to bring their own devices to these training sessions.  There will also be drawings for prizes at the end of these training events!

No registration is needed and all training events are free.

Please help spread the word about this opportunity to help our seniors bridge the digital divide!

This program is made possible through an Ohio Healthy Aging Grant and a partnership between the Highland County Commissioners and the Highland County Community Action Organization.
