(Waverly) – Waverly City Schools has announced the hiring of Bill Hoover as the district’s new superintendent. Hoover, who has been with the district since 1993, has been serving as interim superintendent and will assume the role immediately.

“The board received significant interest in this position, and interviewed multiple candidates,” said Waverly City Schools Board President Allan Szoke. “Mr. Hoover is the right person to lead our district forward. He stepped into the role of interim superintendent and hit the ground running with an incredible amount of positive feedback.”

“My family is extremely grateful and I am humbled with this opportunity. My career has provided a chance to work with a lot of great students and staff at Waverly City Schools,” said Hoover. “I look forward to serving our community to the best of my ability to fulfill our potential. Fight on, Waverly!”

Hoover received his undergraduate degree from Miami University, and received his Master of Education and completed his superintendent licensure program at Ohio University. He started his career at Waverly in 1993 as a math teacher and coach. Through the years he has served in multiple leadership positions with the district including his most recent position of Director of Operations, Waverly High School Principal, Waverly Junior High Principal and Assistant Principal, and Boys’ Varsity Basketball Coach. His career at Waverly includes multiple highlights from teaching the district’s first Advanced Placement course as a high school calculus teacher, to receiving the school’s first “Excellent” distinction on the Ohio Department of Education’s Building Report Card as Waverly Junior High Principal.

“Mr. Hoover has been an integral part of our district for three decades and his dedication to our students has always been clear through his leadership and passion for creating the best possible learning environment for all”, said Waverly City School Board Vice-President Ann Oyer.

The search for a Director of Operations to replace Hoover will start immediately.
