What turned into a physical, high octane contest, the Huntington Huntsmen picked up their first conference win of 2022-23 with a 64-62 decision at Southeastern.

The Huntsmen led most of the first two quarters, leading 22-15 after the first period and 37-29 late in the second quarter, before the Panthers closed the first half on a 9-0 run for a 38-37 SE lead at intermission.

The Huntsmen surged ahead at 48-44 midway through the third quarter, but again Southeastern closed on a 8-3 run for a 52-51 lead after three quarters.

Quarter number four went back and forth on the scoreboard, with the Panthers getting their biggest lead at 59-54. But this time, it was the Huntsmen who finished on a 10-3 close for the 64-62 win.

The game was very physical all night long, with players diving for loose balls and many times resembling an interstate traffic pile-up.

Southeastern had what appeared to be the final opportunity for a game winner, trailing 63-62, when Lane Williams drove into the lane for a potential game winning shot. His shot attempt was blocked by two Huntsmen and the following loose ball was picked up by Huntington’s Noah Potter, who was fouled after dribbling to the other end of the court. Potter proceeded to make one of two free throws to provide the final two point winning margin for Huntington.

The Huntsmen shot 25/57 from the field- including 7/24 from the arc for 44%. They added 7/13 from the foul line and committed only 7 turnovers.

Southeastern was 23/61 from the field- including 9/21 from the arc for a total of 38%. The Panthers were 7/15 from the charity stripe and committed 8 turnovers.

Southeastern won the rebounding battle 36-32.
