(Chillicothe) – The local Masonic Lodge, Scioto #6, Free & Accepted Masons, is awarding four $1,000 scholarships to top scholars in the 2022 graduating classes at local high schools.

Two of the winners are from Chillicothe High School, Brady Wood, who will attend Capital University and Eric Patrick Friend, who plans to attend Otterbein University.

A third recipient is Carley Smith, Paint Valley High School, who will attend Miami of Ohio.

A fourth scholarship, for a student planning to study art, went to Emily Faith Howie of the  Ross County Christian Academy, who is headed for Mount Vernon Nazarene University.

The art scholarship was sponsored by James Fritz Schafer, a past master and member of Scioto Lodge #6, in honor of his late wife, Victoria Schafer, who was a noted local artist and photographer.

Scioto Lodge plans to award the scholarships and honor other top scholars from area schools with a Scholars Banquet, Monday, May 16th at the Masonic Temple, 57 East Main Street, Chillicothe.

The lodge’s annual scholarship program is funded partially by its annual fish and tenderloin fry which is scheduled this year for Friday, June 3, at the Lions Club Shelter in Yoctangee Park.
