The Panthers of Miami Trace ran their Frontier Athletic Conference Boys Basketball record to (8-0) with a physical 42-38 win at Jackson Friday, snapping the Ironmen’s 10 game win streak.

The rough and tumble contest took the steam of the offense for both teams as each club shot only 35% from the field for the game. Miami Trace was 15/43- including 3/12 from the arc for 35%, while Jackson was 13/38- including 6/15 from the arc for 34%.

The shooting struggle was more obvious in the first half, with the Panthers leading 4-2 after the first quarter and Jackson getting their first lead of 13-12 at halftime. The third period remained close with Miami Trace up 25-23 after three periods. After the Ironmen tied the game 25-25 early in the fourth quarter, the Panthers went on a 5-0 run for a 30-25 advantage, then got up 33-27.

That’s when Jackson went on a 7-0 run for a 34-33 lead on a Jax Carroll three-pointer from the corner. The Panthers answered with a trey of their own when Coleden May drilled a three from the corner for a 36-34 lead, which they would never relinquish. The Panthers built spreads of 39-34 and 41-35, but a trey from over 30 feet by Jackson’s Ryan Seimetz cut the deficit to 41-38 with 8 seconds remaining. Miami Trace’s Bryson Osborne sealed the win with a free-throw with 2 seconds left to wrap up the 42-38 decision.

Miami Trace hauled down 38 team rebounds, 15 of which were on the offensive board. 6’7 sophomore Adam Guthrie had a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds, while also blocking 5 shots. Brady Armstrong led the offense with 14 points. Those two players along with the tremendous defensive play of Austin Boedecker in holding Jackson’s Boston Campbell to only 4 points, earned those three Panthers the “McDonald’s Players of the Game.”

Jackson was led by Jax Carroll and Bodhi Wolford with 11 points each.

Miami Trace improves to (8-0/12-4) and can clinch the FAC title with a win vs Washington CH in their next conference game, with Hillsboro being their final league contest. Jackson drops to (4-4/12-5) on the season.
