The Ohio High School Athletic Association State Wrestling Championships found several area athletes taking home medals as All Ohioans from The Ohio State University Schottenstein Center, Friday through Sunday.
After Friday’s events, Teays Valley was 7th in Division 1 and Miami Trace is 13th in Division 2 as the highest team placements among area teams.
On Saturday, Teays Valley’s Cam McDanel advanced to the state title match to he held Sunday evening. Zander Graham and Gunner Havens, also of Teays Valley, advanced in their weight classes. The Vikings were in 6th place as a team following Saturday’s events.
Miami Trace was in 17th place in Division 2. Panther wrestlers Weston Melvin, Kylan Knapp and Bryce Bennett guaranteed themselves top 6 finishes.
Isaac Gray of Adena earned a top 6 finish in Division 3, as he advanced to Sunday medal round.
On Sunday, Teays Valley, Miami Trace and Adena hit the jackpot with area All Ohioans on the podium as their wrestlers placed in Top 8:
Teays Valley– Cam McDanel is state runner-up in the 190 pound weight class, while Gunner Havens 5th place in 106 pound division. Zander Graham 7th in 144 pound class.
Miami Trace– Weston Melvin finished 5th place in Division 2 for the 144 pound division, earning All Ohio status. His Panther teammate Kylan Knapp placed third in the 185 pound class while Panther Bryce Bennett was 5th in the 215 pound class.
Adena’s Isaac Gray made school history with a 5th place finish in the 165 pound class for Division 3.
