Ross Historical Society Honors Local Contributors at Annual Meeting

The Ross County Historical Society held their 128th Annual Meeting Monday, honoring contributors to the preservation of our local heritage as well as local student scholarship awards.

The 2024 First Capital History Awards were presented to the World Heritage Site Destination, Dard Hunter for the Mountain House, Ed Steele for the Bourneville Good Shepherd Church restoration, and the Elm Grange.

A special award was presented to Allen Doddroe for his Rail Road exhibit.

The Nolan Scholarships of $2,500 each were presented to Adena High School senior Nora Beery, who will be attending the Ohio State University, and Huntington High School senior Sarah Lute, who will be going to Muskingum University.

Quilts that have been displayed over the years at the Ross County Heritage Center are featured in a new book that is now on sale at the museum in Chillicothe.

The meeting also saw the election of members to fill their first three-year terms. Ron Cook, Bonnie Grove, Drew Musser, Erika Osen, and Robin Snyder. Mark Unger will be serving the remaining year of John Bowling’s three-year term.
