(Chillicothe) – The Ross County Land Bank is proud to support the McArthur Gardens Permanent Supportive Housing Project. The Land Bank, partnering with the Ohio Department of Development’s Brownfield Remediation Program, has contributed over $280,000 in funds and administrative support to the housing project.

The Land Bank seeks to reduce the number of vacant and blighted properties in Ross County. These properties generally attract crime and lead to several problems for the community including lowered property values. The Land Bank aims to improve these properties and make them usable through demolition or rehabilitation.

Utilizing State funding and in partnership with Land Bank consultant, Tetra Tech, the Land Bank was able to perform appropriate asbestos abatement and building demolition of the existing vacant structure. The project was extensive with the presence of approximately 16,000 square feet (sf) of asbestos containing floor tile and mastic, 5,000 sf of roofing materials and 400 sf of transite panels.

The demolition, clearing and greening of this property was completed to build the McArthur Gardens, a 32-unit permanent supportive housing complex owned and co-developed by Integrated Services for Behavioral Health. The project will serve chronically homeless individuals in the City of Chillicothe and Ross County. Four of the units will be designed to meet the HUD 504 guidelines and two of the units will be designed for the hearing and sight impaired. Prior to the McArthur Gardens project there were zero permanent supportive housing units in the entire County.
