Township Trustee Billy Taylor announced on a Special Edition of LitterMediaLIVE last week “This is a project we’ve been working on for several years… We asked the residents of Scioto Township last November of they’d support a full-time department, with 64.23% of the vote, they said ‘Yes’.”

Tuesday, in a ceremony at the Township Hall on Watt Street, six full-time members were sworn in by Sheriff George Lavender.

Taylor introduced Isaac Fullerton, Savannah Horsley, Johnathan Fyffe, Benjamin Honline, James Cominsky and Daniel Tharp as “the biggest full-time crew, outside the City (of Chillicothe) there is.”

According to figures provided by Scioto Township, the most populated in Ross County, the Scioto Fire Department answered 1,174 of a combined 1,660 calls county wide in 2022, including 452 mutual aid calls.

“This is a big day for Scioto Township and Ross County altogether” said Fire Chief Ryan Horsley. “They’ve been loyal servants of Scioto Township in their capacity before this and I’m sure they do the same as full-time in the same way.”

Before swearing in the crew, Lavender addressed the need for additional members across the county. “We have some townships that have part time people that are running constantly and handling a run, but we still have some townships that’s not. This is a step in the right direction.”
