Second Half Offensive Explosion Leads to Logan Elm 43-6 Win at Westfall

The temperatures were very hot Friday, and so was the Logan Elm Braves offense and defense in the second half, as they blew a 14-6 halftime lead into a 43-6 victory with 29 second half points.

The Braves opened the scoring at 7:44 of the first quarter, with a 9 play/65 yard scoring drive that was completed on a 2 yard TD run by Landon Thompson, the first of his four touchdowns in the game.

Westfall put together three long drives into Logan Elm territory, only to fumble in three consecutive possessions. They would lose one more fumble in the fourth quarter.

The Braves upped the score to 14-0 with a Landon Thompson 5 yard TD run at 1:00 to play in the second quarter. The Mustangs got a big kick-off return from Trent Walters, giving Westfall the ball on the Braves 38 yard line. Six plays later, Bryce Wickline found Jaden Towler in the end zone for a score with 21 second remaining in the half. The PAT kick failed, cutting Logan Elm’s halftime lead to 14-6.

The second half was all Logan Elm, as they scored on each of their four possessions and added a safety when they sacked Wickline in the end zone.

The Braves Aaron Walters connected with Camden Redd on a 7 yard TD pass at 9:05 of the third quarter, capping a 65 yard/7 play drive for a 20-6 lead, as the PAT failed. Landon Thompson scored on a 4 yard run at 2:49 of the third quarter, capping a 76 yard/6 play drive for a 27-6 lead. The sack for two points came with 2:30 of the third period. Thompson made it 36-6 with a 3 yard TD run at 11:14 of the fourth quarter. The final margin of 43-6 was added with under one minute left in the game when reserve quarterback Austin Holbrook scored on a bootleg run.

Logan Elm compiled 437 total yards, with 121 rushing yards coming from Landon Thompson and 86 from Michael Bock. Aaron Walters threw for 184 yards on 12/17 passing.

Westfall had 251 total yards, with 169 passing from Bryce Wickline.

Logan Elm committed two turnovers and 40 yards in penalties, while Westfall had four turnovers and 55 yards in penalties.

Logan Elm improves to (2-0) on the season, while Westfall drops to (1-1).
