Convincing league season ending wins will bring Mid State League Buckeye Boys Basketball titles for the Teays Valley Vikings and Fairfield Union Falcons. Teays Valley’s 64-45 win at Liberty Union along with Fairfield Union’s 66-37 win over Bloom Carroll propelled both teams to (13-1) records for the co-championship.
TEAYS VALLEY 64, LIBERTY UNION 45
The Vikings jumped out to a 7-2 lead, only to see the Lions get back to within 7-6, before Teays Valley took off to an 18-10 lead after one quarter. The game never got any closer the rest of the night. The Vikings lead 35-19 at halftime, 52-34 after three quarters and 64-45 was the final.
(13-1/16-5) Teays Valley Recap saw Sam Miller lead all players with 21 points, Kole Nungester had 15, Brody Fields 13 and Ryan Allton added 9 points. Three other Vikings combined for 6 points.
(6-8/9-10) Liberty Union was led by Landon Piccirillo with 14 points and Cooper Manson with 12.
Teays Valley closes their regular season Saturday vs Grove City.
FAIRFIELD UNION 66, BLOOM CARROLL 37
The Falcons (13-1/19-3) never trailed in the game, taking a 10-0 lead after one quarter. The Bulldogs didn’t get their first bucket until the 5:02 mark of the second quarter. Bloom-Carroll had a small rally to close out the first half, but couldn’t shrink Fairfield Union’s lead, 28-11 at halftime.
Fairfield Union continued to battle on the boards and were efficient on offense to extend their lead through the third quarter to 46-23.
The Falcons were led by Caleb Schmelzer with 22 points, Ted Harrah 13, Ronnie Rowley with 9, Caleb Redding 8, Brennan Rowles 6, Isaac Schmelzer 5, and Keegan Arnett with 3 points.
Bloom Carroll had only one player in double figures- Michael Whitcraft with 10 points.
The Falcons are idle until tournament play. They’re scheduled to host the winner of Logan Elm/McClain on February 22nd. Bloom-Carroll (9-5/12-9) close out the regular season at Franklin Heights Saturday. They’ll play the Granville/Whitehall winner on February 24th.
