Unioto Big Plays Aid 27-14 Win Over Zane Trace

Unioto and Paint Valley stand at the top of the SVC football standings headed into their match-up next Friday, following Unioto’s 27-14 win over Zane Trace and Paint Valley’s 41-0 win over Huntington. The winner of the Unioto at Paint Valley game will grab sole possession of the conference lead with one game to play. The Week 9 game will be the Game of the Week on Litter Media Radio.

In the Shermans win over Zane Trace, Unioto drew first blood with a game opening 90 yard kickoff return by Ashton Crace and a Lucas Hanes’ PAT kick for a 7-0 lead.

Zane Trace countered with a 51 yard scoring drive in 15 plays, completed by quarterback Carter Langley’s 1 yard scoring run and the Judah Hanks’ PAT for a 7-7 tie at 3:50 of the first quarter. That score held up through halftime.

Unioto grabbed the 14-7 lead on the second half opening drive of 51 yards on 8 plays, capped off with a 3 yard TD run by Ethan Summar.

The Pioneers evened the score 14-14 at 2:04 of the third quarter, driving 66 yards in 4 plays, culminating with a Langley 3 yard TD run.

The Shermans took the lead for good at 3:10 remaining in regulation, driving 87 yards in 11 plays, for a 21-14 advantage. Following a Zane Trace sack of Unioto quarterback Newton Hoops, Hoops responded with a 21 yard TD pass to Caden Cutright in the left corner of the end zone, despite ZT’s double coverage.

Zane Trace attempted one last drive, getting into Unioto territory. Shermans’ defensive back Caden Cutright ended the threat and the game on an 64 yard pick-six off for the final score of 27-14.

Unioto had 266 total yards, with 153 rushing. Ethan Summar led the run game with 70 yards and one touchdown. Newt Hoops was 15/20 passing for 113 yards. Caden Cutright had 50 yards receiving, with one touchdown on offense and the game ending pick-six. He was named the McDonald’s Player of the Game.

Zane Trace had 246 total yards, with 191 on the ground. Carter Langley ran for 85 yards and 2 touchdowns. Langley was also 7/16 passing for only 55 yards and one interception.
