The Chillicothe City Councilman for the 6th Ward is asking residents to join him in doing something to clean-up trash in the ward.
Councilman Jamie Brown put his thoughts and suggestion to the residents on his Facebook post:
“One of the biggest challenges I’ve heard from folks I serve is about issues of property nuisance and areas with trash/litter collection. While having a fulltime nuisance officer has helped address some serial behavior throughout the city, it is my hope that we can help transform our neighborhood through new and radical collaborations.”
Brown’s request is to get people to join him once per month to pick up trash in the 6th Ward.
“Starting next week, I’m going to go out for a walk on a select Wednesday evening of each month to pick up trash, explore priority opportunities for clean up, and build a coalition of 6th ward residents who would love to grow a healthy habit of caring for our neighborhood.”
“It is my hope that we can address these nuisance issues with a little patience and a lot of labors of love. If you feel led, please join me. We’ll get some steps in, get to know each other more, and build a stronger 6th ward.”

As a homeowner in the 6th ward on what I believe is the shortest street in Chillicothe, I can appreciate the efforts. But there needs to be more. Much more accountability! We have a house with known drug activity that has trash and debris throughout the entire property. Arson of the garage of this home took place last fall. We have complained and reported activity to police numerous times. We have reported the activity to Metro Housing Authority. Still, nothing gets done. 2 doors down there is a home with trash laying everywhere with a yard that was “weed whacked “ once in July.
While I truly appreciate this effort, until homeowners and landlords are held fully accountable, the actions of the efforts here are futile and do nothing to fix a much bigger problem. I speak for the majority on our street and we are fed up.
