Two scoring drives of 80+ yards proved to be all the offense Bloom Carroll needed in a come-from-behind 14-10 win at Jackson in the Division 3/Region 11 Quarterfinals Friday night.

The pregame billing of this match-up talked about both teams high scoring offenses, but it was the defense for both squads that stole the show for most of the game.

Jackson never trailed until Bloom Carroll’s game winning drive with under two minutes left to play.

The Ironmen drew first blood by takoing their second possession of the game 71 yards in 9 plays, set up by a 49 yard run by Cade Wolford and culminating with a 10 yard quarterback TD run by Bodhi Wolford at 5:05 of the first quarter. Ethan Crawford’s PAT kick made it 7-0 Jackson.

The Bulldogs could not get anything going on offense until their final drive of the first half when they opened up the pass attack for a 81 yard-9 play scoring drive, finished off by Ethan Thanthanavong’s 8 yard TD pass to Carter Cornelius with 40 seconds left in the half. The PAT kick by Treyton McKee made it 7-7 at halftime.

Jackson took a 10-7 lead at 6:52 of the third quarter when Ethan Crawford connected on a 44 yard field goal after the Ironmen could not capitalize more on an interception at the 34 yard line that saw the subsequent drive stall.

That score held up until Bloom Carroll’s defense stopped a 9 play Jackson drive on the BC 12 yard line with a few minutes remaining in the contest. That set the table for the Bulldogs game winning drive, which traveled 88 yards in 10 plays, capped off by a 24 yard TD pass from Thanthanavong to Cornelius on a 4th down and 7 play at 1:33 remaining in the game.

Jackson’s last gasp drive ended near midfield when Bloom Carroll sacked Jackson’s quarterback on a 4th down play.

Bloom Carroll quarterback Ethan Thanthanvong was the Litter Media McDonald’s Player of the Game, completing 19 passes for 228 yards and two touchdowns. Jackson was held to 198 total yards, with 116 on the ground.

Jackson closes their season as FAC Champs and a record of (10-2). MSL Tri-Champ Bloom Carroll improves to (10-2) and advances to face Bishop Watterson on Friday, November 10th at a site to be determined Sunday. Watterson advanced with a 44-7 win over Miami Trace.
