(Lafayette) — Going 4 hours in the longest game of the season, a back and forth game ended with the Cape Catfish beating Lafayette 10-8 in 10 innings for the 2021 Prospect League Championship, for their first title.
The Catfish won back-to-back games at Lafayette, after losing the opening game of the Prospect League Championship best-of-three championship series at Cape.
A three-run homer put Lafayette into the early lead then added another run for a 4-0 lead after five innings. Cape came roaring back with four runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh for a 6-4 advantage.
Lafayette came back with four runs for an 8-6 lead with the Catfish scoring two runs in the eighth to tie the contest at 8-8. That’s the way the score remained until the 10th inning.
In the top of the 10th, the Catfish scored the eventual game winning runs on an RBI single and a wild pitch for a 10-8 lead, which they held onto for the win.
