The Chillicothe Paints saw their offense set the pace early for a 9-3 lead after five innings, then saw Champion City storm back to score seven unanswered runs for a 10-9 Eastern Conference Division Championship victory.
The Paints scored a run in the first, three in the second, two in the third and three in the fifth for a 9-3 lead.
The Kings had scored two runs in the first and one in the fourth. Trailing 9-3, Champion City scored one in the sixth, then two runs in each of the seventh, eighth and ninth for the win.
Brent Widder was 4/4 for Champion City, scoring three runs and driving in one run. Mitchell Okuley, Trey Carter and Bo Seccombe each had two RBI’s for the Kings. Okuley’s one-out homer in the 9th tied the game, setting up two more singles and a sacrifice fly to win the game.
Chillicothe’s Jake Shier was 2/5 at the plate, driving in three runs. Nathan Karaffa was 3/4, scoring three runs with one RBI.
Champion City had 10 runs, 14 hits and 2 errors
Chillicothe had 9 runs, 9 hits and 2 errors.
Champion City will play Lafayette in the Eastern Conference Championship on Saturday.
