Rick and Kathy Schrader, dba, Schrader Rentals, are sponsoring a one time 2022-2023 college tuition scholarship in honor of their daughter, Emily Schrader Shuter. Emily was a 2002 graduate of Unioto HS, 20-year UHS alumni cheerleader, and Ohio State Cheerleader from 2002-2006.

This year’s winner is Sage Smith.

They chose now to offer this scholarship since it is the 20 year anniversary of her graduation. Her husband Mark Shuter, II has enhanced the scholarship value for the winning participant, making it a $3,000 scholarship award.

In 2002, Emily joined Unioto alumnus Amy Hawkins, Class of 1999, and CHS graduate Katie Pahl, Class of 1999, when she started cheering at The Ohio State University.  Quite an achievement for three girls from Ross County!

The honor scholarship was limited to Unioto High School seniors registered in a college or trade school.  The applicant was required to show proof of determination and results of classroom academic achievement.  Applicant also had to have shown a dedication to the activity of cheerleading in the Unioto cheerleading program.

A committee, not related to the family or school, was selected to pick the winning applicant who submitted an application, a written personal statement about their career aspirations and the impact of the sport of cheerleading in their life and provided a letter of recommendation.

As parents of a cheerleader, Rick and Kathy recognize the hard work, commitment and dedication that it takes to participate in the activity of cheerleading.  For their daughter it opened many doors of opportunity.
Academics are extremely important as well. Emily graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Ohio State University with a double major in Spanish and International Studies.  After cheering for The University for 4 years and earning her Masters Degree from The Ohio State University, she was hired to be The Ohio State Assistant Cheerleading Coach.
