Georgia Edges Ohio State In Peach Bowl CFP National Semi

The underdog Ohio State Buckeyes came up just short in their effort to upset top-ranked Georgia, falling 42-41 in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta, allowing the Bulldogs to advance to the January National Championship Game vs TCU. The Horn-Frogs beat Michigan 51-45 in the Fiesta Bowl.

Ohio State entered the game a 6.5 point underdog.

Ohio State had leads of 21-7 and 38-24 and were up as late as 41-35, only to see the defending national champs rally to take a 42-41 lead with 54 seconds remaining in the game when they drove 72 yards on 5 plays for the go-ahead score. The PAT gave the Dawgs a 42-41 lead with 54 seconds remaining..

The Buckeyes managed to drive inside the Georgia 35, but a last second 49 yard field goal attempt by Noah Ruggles sailed wide left to give Georgia the victory. It was Ruggles lone miss in the game, having connected on earlier field goals of 48 and 11 yards.

Georgia trailed 21-7, but scored 17 unanswered points for a 24-21 lead late in the first half. Ohio State then stormed down the field to take a 28-24 halftime lead.

The Bucks were up 38-24 after the third quarter, but were outscored 18-3 in the fourth period in suffering their season ending loss.

OSU lost All American Marvin Harrison for most of the second half after taking a crunching blow from a Georgia defender in the end-zone, and did not return to the field. Tight End Cade Stover missed most of the game as well after suffering a back injury.

Georgia racked up 533 total yards, 398 in the air and 135 rushing. Ohio State had 467 total yards, with 119 on the ground. Stroud ran for 34 of those and Dallan Hayden ran for 43 yards.

Quarterback CJ Stroud threw 23/34 for 348 yards and 4 touchdowns. Harrison caught two TD’s in the first half for 106 yards, prior to his game-ending injury. Emeka Egbuka had 8 catches for 112 yards and 1 TD and Xavier Johnson caught a 37 yard TD pass. Myan Williams, who played very little due to a lingering injury, scored one touchdown.

Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett was 23/34 for 398 yards and 3 TD’s.

Ohio State closes their season at (11-2) and (14-0) Georgia plays (13-1) TCU for the National Championship in Los Angeles on January 9th.
