(Ashville) – FAC co-champion Washington CH saw their baseball tournament run end in the Division 2 Regional Semi Thursday, falling to Bishop Hartley 5-2 at Teays Valley High School Thursday evening.

Hawks starting pitcher Emmett Gillies fanned 12 Blue Lions batters and yielded 6 base hits for the game.

The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when the Hawks got on the scoreboard thanks to a balk by WCH pitcher Titus Lotz, which allowed a Hartley runner to score from third base. The Hawks later had runners on the corners with one out. Another Hartley run scored in that inning on a fielders choice for a 2-0 lead.

The Hawks extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning when pitcher Emmett Gillies helped his own cause with a bases loaded bloop single to center, scoring one run. Hartley’s 3-0 lead was extended with the bases loaded and one out, as Peyton Underwood drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run and give Hartley a 4-0 advantage with still only one out. The Blue Lions managed to wiggle out of any further trouble, with Titus Lotz getting the final out in the inning on a grounder, escaping the inning with only two runs crossing the plate.

Washington CH finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth on a two-out, two run single by Bryce Yeazel to cut Hartley’s lead to 4-2.

A.J. Dallmeyer came on in relief for Titus Lotz to pitch for WCH to start the top of the fifth inning, but Hartley found their way to another run, making it 5-2 Hawks, which held-up for the next two innings as the final score.

Bishop Hartley improves to (18-7) and advances to Friday’s Regional Final at Teays Valley High School against Steubenville, who advanced with a 6-3 win over Saint Clairsville.

Washington CH closes their season at (18-6) with an FAC co-championship with Jackson, along with sectional and district titles.
