Jobless Claims Drop In Ohio

(COLUMBUS) — The employment picture appears to be improving according to initial jobless claims for the week ending May 8th, so says the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

Their report of 17,474 “initial claims”, which is lower than the just under 20,000 the week before. Ohioans filed 228,061 “continued jobless claims” last week, 548,241 fewer than last year’s high.

National jobless rate dropped to 444,000.

The ODJFS also provided 149,020 Ohioans with Pandemic Unemployment Assistance in the past week.

According to the ODJFS, over the last 61 weeks, it has distributed over $11.6 billion in unemployment compensation payments to more than one million Ohioans.

ODJFS has also issued more than $10.2 billion in PUA payments to more than 1.1 million Ohioans.
