Lucasville Valley Pitcher George Arnett

A pitcher’s duel was the story in Saturday’s Division 4 State Baseball Semifinal, where the (20-12) Lucasville Valley Indians saw their season come to a close, falling to Van Wert Lincolnview, 2-1.

All the runs came in the 7th inning, with Lincolnville scoring twice in the top of the inning and the Indians come-back effort falling short, with only one run in their final at-bat.

Both team combined for five hits, all after the fourth inning. Valley’s George Arnett gave up three hits and Lincolnview’s Landon Price yielded two.

In the top of the 7th, Cole Binkley’s RBI single put Lincolnview up 1-0, followed later by a sacrifice fly by Caden Hanf for a 2-0 lead.

Hunter Edwards drove in Andrew Andronis with an RBI double in the bottom of the 7th inning seventh, cutting the Indians deficit to 2-1. But, that’s all Valley could muster on the scoreboard as Edwards was later thrown out at third base on a bunt attempt, with no more serious scoring threat after that.

Lincolnview’s Landon Price gained the win, striking out 14 Valley batters. George Arnett, just a sophomore, fanned 4 hitters.

Lincolnview improved to (24-8) and will play in the D-4 State Final on Sunday.

In Division 2, Bloom Carroll plays for the state title Sunday as well, after advancing with a 4-0 win over Hamilton Badin on Friday.
