(Columbus) – The start of a new year means new beginnings, New Year’s resolutions and new opportunities. For some, this could mean purchasing a new home. In fact, a recent study shows that 45 million Millennials alone plan to buy their first home in 2022.

Given that predicted sales volume, Ohio Department of Commerce’s Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing is recognizing January’s “Get Organized Month” by sharing organizational tips and resources to help real estate professionals and anyone looking to purchase a home.

“We strive to protect those buying or selling a home in Ohio,” said Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing Superintendent Anne Petit.  “In a very competitive housing market, it is important for our licensees, their clients and customers to be organized when working through the homebuying process to protect what for most is the largest investment they’ll ever make.

“Get Organized Month” was created to increase awareness of the value of being organized. While organizational skills are always important, they can be critical for anyone looking to buy a home.

Homebuyers are encouraged to understand the importance of preparation and investing time, not only in getting organized, but also understanding the importance of each step in the home buying transaction. Check out these tips that will help in the homebuying process:

  • Do your research, the more you know the better you can plan
  • Always verify you are working with an actively licensed real estate agent
  • Get finances in order; run your credit report and identify a lender for your home purchase
  • Find an actively licensed home inspector to provide a detailed report on your potential home’s condition
  • Gather necessary documents needed for closing

The Division of Real Estate licenses and regulates Ohio home inspectors, real estate brokers and sales associates who arrange for the sale or lease of real estate, as well as real estate appraisers ensuring all licensed professionals conduct their business in a legal and ethical manner.
