Presented by Tomlinson Insurance Agency

The Chillicothe Paints will travel to Peru, Illinois Tuesday to face the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp for the Prospect League’s Eastern Conference Championship game.

The Paints made their statement against Johnstown early pushing 10 runs across the plate in the home half of the first inning.

Tim Orr got things started singling home Brett Carson for the game’s first run and Cameron Bowen cleared the bases with a three run double to post a 4-0 lead for the home team. The Paints scored five times with no outs.

Chillicothe pounded out 10 runs on nine hits in the first giving starter Sebastian Escobar all the support he would need to improve to 4-0 on the season. Escobar struck out six of the 17 batters he faced over five-innings of work.

Offensively, Carson led the Paints ‘ hit parade, going 4-for-4 with three runs batted in, a home run and scoring four times. Santrel Farmer was also a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate and scored three times. Nate Dorinsky was 4-for-5 and scored three runs. Orr and Bowen each had three RBI and Mike Sprockett added two more.

It was Chillicothe’s 13th win over Johnstown in 2022.

The Paints split their two games with the Pistol Shrimp, both games were played in Peru. Chillicothe earned a 6-2 win July 8th, but dropped a 6-0 decision on July 9th.

Illinois Valley held off Danville 11-10 to win the Wabash River Valley Division Sunday night. The Pistol Shrimp rallied from a 10-6 deficit to earn the title.

Should Chillicothe win the Eastern Conference title Tuesday, they have the option to stay across the Mississippi River and face the Western Conference champ on their field for game one of the best of three PL Championship Series on Thursday. If so, they would host game two and if necessary, game three at VA Memorial Stadium next weekend.
