Pike County Wrestlers Open 2023-24 Season

(Pike County) – High school wrestlers from Pike County kept busy in their opening weekend, traveling to a few separate events.

The Waverly Girls wrestling team traveled to Western Brown High School on Saturday for the Hammer and Anvil Girls Tournament.

-Western’s Callie Farmer placed 2nd and finished 3-1 on the day with 3 pins. She finished 24th overall as a team out of 32.

-Piketon’s Callie Anderson finished 1-2 on the day with 1 pin. She earned her first win of her career. This is also the first win by a Piketon Girl Wrestler.

-Waverly finished 29th as a team out of 32. Ava Robertson finished 4th in her class. Ava and Josie Oliver both finished 1-2 on the day. Aerian Tackett and Hadlee Carsey finished 0-2.

The Waverly Boys wrestling team traveled to Mechanicsburg High School on Saturday for the Heart Of Ohio Tournament.

-Western’s Garrett Chandler finished the day 3-3 with 3 pins.

-Piketon’s Nathan Shrum finished the 1-4 with 1 pin. This is the first win by a Piketon Boy Wrestler

-Waverly finished 16 out of 21 teams. Alex Tolliver won his class with a 6-0 record and 6 pins! Dallas Downs finished 6th with a record of 3-2 with 3 pins. Kyle Jude finished the day at 1-3.

Waverly Girls also sent two wrestlers to the prestigious Ironman tournament. The inaugural Women of Ironman Tournament is a national invitational held at Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Emma Davis went 1-2 in her class winning her first match by major decision. Abby Green placed 6th going 3-3 on the weekend with two wins by pin and one by major decision. Abby was one of only two Ohio wrestlers in placement matches in her class.
