Just a few weeks after news that the Ross County Park District had received a $2.48 million grant for Herron-Downs Preservation work, park district director Joe Letsche has announced he’s leaving the district.

Letsche took to his Facebook site to make the announcement Thursday evening:

“Friends, Romans, Countrymen. Lend me your ears.

It’s bittersweet for me, but the time has come for me to resign from my position of Park District Director. I’m super-duper excited to go hang out in Cincinnati full-time with my partner Marie 😍and explore my next steps in life, but I’m also sad to leave the wonderful Park District and my colleagues and friends and family in Ross county.

All I can say (for now) is that it’s been an absolute honor and privilege to have the opportunity to work alongside the other staff, the public, and the board of directors to help facilitate the continuing evolution of the Park District and spread the magic dirt. I think we’ve accomplished some good stuff and I know that more good stuff is coming!

The board has begun the search for the next Director, and I’ll do everything I can to help ensure that we have a smooth and successful transition…which should be easy-peasy since we have such an amazing staff to carry the operations.

Other than that, I’m not out the door just yet. I’ll be here for another month or so, lurking in the shadows and making facebook posts. And then I’ll be getting back home to Chillicothe every chance I get. (We have the best trails anywhere in the state.)

Peace and love and thank you and Happy New Year!”
