The 23rd Annual Scioto River Waterway Cleanup will be held on Saturday, April 24th. Last year’s event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Ross County Litter Control Director Judi Mannion says the 9am-noon event will work along the banks of the river between both U.S. Route 35 bridges.

Volunteers are asked to gather at the boat ramp in the Chillicothe City Park Annex. Judi says volunteers should pre-register by emailing littercontrol@rosscountyohio.gov.

Masks are required to be worn and social distancing will be observed during the event, and you are asked to stay with the group you came with, if you were accompanied by others.

Gloves, vests and trash bags will be provided, but you should wear boots to protect your shoes from the mud along the river bank. Participants will need to sign waivers.

Certificates of participation can be provided to those volunteering as part of a community service project.

The event will be held “rain or shine”, unless lightning is present in the area.
