The Scioto Paint Valley Mental Health Center first opened its doors on Paint Street, Chillicothe Ohio on October 14, 1966.  The agency that began with 3 employees has now grown to have 159 staff members who work in Ross, Pike, Pickaway, Fayette, and Highland counties.

SPVMHC now offers psychiatric medication and evaluation services, Crisis Center assistance and interventions, Suicide Prevention and COVID Careline telephone counseling, residential treatment facilities for men and women substance use disorders,  residential housing treatment programs for people diagnosed serious mental health disorders, group, family, and individual counseling, partial hospitalization treatment, a Medication-Assisted Treatment program, and prevention and education interventions conducted by licensed professional counselors, licensed social workers, and Prevention Specialists.

The Crisis Center takes phone calls 24 hours every day of the year. 
Just this past week, agency Executive Director Dr. Barbara Mahaffey hired 3 new Nurse Practitioners who are taking new client referrals and scheduling appointments for psychiatric and medication evaluations. SPVMHC also has two Board Certified Child and Adult Psychiatrists. 

Throughout the pandemic, SPVMHC has remained open and has available appointment times for weekdays and limited evenings for in person or TeleHealth appointments.
